A newly published international guide: “Life Cycle Management – A Business Guide to Sustainability” is aimed for helping companies to make more sustainable goods and services. It is now ready to support application of life cycle thinking in large, small and middle sized companies throughout the world. This support is expected to result in enhanced innovation and more sustainable products. The LCM Guide includes a CD-ROM with an extensive training programme.

Life cycle initiative

The LCM guide is prepared by experts from FORCE Technology, Danish Standards and Aalborg University in connection with the ”Life Cycle Initiative” that the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) started in 2002 in collaboration with SETAC (Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry), a leading international society of environmental scientists. The UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative involves more than 1000 experts globally from academics, authorities, companies, and international trade organisations.

The three LCA Guide authors:Arne Remmen (Aalborg University), Jeppe Frydendal (Danish Standards) and Allan Astrup (FORCE Technology).

The follow-up of the publication will be training activities around the world, and a new cooperation between UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), which is called ”The Sustainable Value Chain Initiative”. This cooperation is aimed to promote, help and support use of the life cycle thinking and -approaches in the 190 WBCSD member companies and in their value chains.
