FORCE Technology develops next generation floating offshore windmills

FORCE Technology, together with energy giant Statkraft and engineering and fabrication company NLI, establish the company WindSea for development of next generation floating offshore windmills.

The goal of WindSea is to develop and commercialise a floating offshore windmill for the world market. The present design/concept is based on work performed by FORCE Technology.

Experience from offshore and windmills

In this concept, FORCE Technology’s extensive experience with floating offshore structures developed through more than 25 years in the offshore business together with our knowledge and hands-on experience from the windmill industry, are used to full extent.

Further development of the WindSea design will be performed by the newly established company. FORCE Technology, holding a 26 % ownership in the company, will be a key player and preferred supplier for a wide range of competences.

Windmill project divided into phases

Based on the present plan, the impending work is divided into phases starting with “Validation of Concept” and ending with the construction, installation and operation of a full scale pilot with a generator capacity of 3 X 3 MW.

The concept phase has focused on overcoming some of the technical hurdles for floating offshore windmills. The next phases are aimed at addressing and solving the remaining challenges.

Statkraft and NLI

The two co-operating companies, Statkraft and NLI, will play significant and important roles in the coming phases. The companies, being in the technical forefront within their fields, are foreseen to contribute both in the validation, engineering, construction and operation phases.
