FORCE Technology has found a new improved method of mapping the consumption of firewood in Denmark. |
”It proves that the firewood consumption in Denmark has been essentially underestimated and therefore the environmental impact from firing of wood – which in recent years has attracted much attention on account of the emission of small particles , NOx and PAHs – is significantly greater that presumed previously”, says Anders Evald, Project Manager from FORCE Technology.
The investigation comprises 224 phone interviews with owners of wood-burning stoves and fireplaces. Questions were asked as to the origin of the firewood, user habits and how much firewood was used annually. The result is upgraded to cover the whole country.
The firewood consumption corresponds to an energy quantity of about 20 PJ, which is about 2.5% of Denmark’s gross energy consumption. There is a total of about 530,000 wood-burning stoves, fireplaces, mass owens etc in Danish dwellings (83%) and summer houses (17%).
