Why use environmental product declarations?
Being able to document your product’s environmental profile may prove highly advantageous. Environmental product declarations can be used for marketing purposes to document any environmental advantages of your product compared to the competitor’s product.
Environmental product declarations are being increasingly used to provide information on the environmental impact of products and services in Business-to-Business as well as in Business-to-Consumer relations.
The most simple type of environmental product declaration is a Type I environmental product declaration, which is a certified eco-label, e.g. the EU Flower or the Nordic Swan, whereas the so-called Type III environmental product declaration is used in cases where there are no eco-label criteria.

An ISO standard for Type III environmental product declarations (ISO 14025) exists but the various national environmental product declaration systems possess significant differences. They are, however, based on a relatively detailed lifecycle assessment, which is one of FORCE Technology’s core competences.
Another way of providing information on a product’s environmental impact is to use a so-called Type II environmental product declaration.
This type of declaration often consists of one declaration or a few declarations such as “recyclable packaging” or “designed for separation” and although the declarations seem simple they need to be documented in order to comply with the requirements of the ISO 14021 standard, which includes this type of declaration.
