Computational Wind Engineering

FORCE Technology offers consultancy within computational wind engineering i.e. architectural aerodynamics. Investigation of flow around buildings and in landscapes is an area of increased focus in the architectural industry within the two main areas, wind effect on city life and wind loading, sound and vibration. Prediction of wind flow is relevant around a variety of configurations and is related to issues such as:

  • Human wind comfort
  • Urban wind climate
  • Air quality and pollution
  • Wind loads on building structure
  • Wind-induced noise and vibration

In wind investigation we apply the method of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), where a numerical simulation of the local landscape and the proposed buildings is performed and analyzed. This provides very detailed predictions of air velocities around buildings in landscapes or city life. Furthermore it is a cost and time efficient method, which allows for flexible integration into the projects of our clients.

We perform services within the main areas:

  • Bridges
  • Buildings
  • Off-shore
  • Maritime (ships)
  • Landscapes
  • Urban environment
  • Wind turbine siting assessment

The CFD analysis can be supplemented with physical model tests in one of our wind tunnels, which allows for a physical view of the building in natural wind conditions.
