Human Factors is used within several different industries, such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Medical and medico technical industry
  • Power plants/oil and gas industry
  • Shipping and railways

Hospitals

When did you last sit still for 20 minutes and just observed the work in your department? An observation can provide much interesting information about work processes, design and processes, but a screening with a systemic approach will also be capable of revealing underlying causes of breaches of patient safety, near-accidents and inefficient work processes.

In a single day, Human Factors specialists can make great strides in mapping out problem areas, which can be an eye-opening experience for employees and management, as well as form the basis for further intervention with direct involvement of FORCE Technology, or indirectly as consultants.

Human factors behind accidents

In 2006, more than 12,000 adverse events were reported to the Danish Patient Safety Database. Most of these adverse events were due to Human Factors.

Therefore, many resources are to be found in a systematic approach to safety efforts - resources that can be utilised for improved safety as well as better quality treatment.

FORCE Technology enters into collaborative partnership with health services, either solely on the basis of Human Factors, or in combination with the concept of LEAN and quality assurance. Read more about our partners in the Links section to the right.

Medical and medico technical industry
In regard to product development, FORCE Technology possesses experience in the incorporation of knowledge on users' conscious and unconscious needs and behavioural patterns.

By participating in product development with Human Factors knowledge at a very early point in the process, companies save both time and money by targeting efforts on user interface and interaction as a guarantee for patient safety in the context in which the product is to be used.

Power plants/oil and gas industry

In a safety critical operational environment, Human Factors have a great impact on safety. On the basis of a thorough analysis of the organisation, FORCE Technology focuses attention on accidents before they occur. In this way, we equip employees with the ability to see, prioritise and improve safety.

Shipping and railways

A great deal of Human Factors-related knowledge comes from the aviation industry, where knowledge regarding people's abilities and limitations has been used for decades in efforts to improve safety. This knowledge is visible in cockpit design and layout, as well as in the safety routines carried out by pilots prior to a flight.

In the transport sector - railways and shipping - knowledge about Human Factors is applied to an ever greater extent, with improved safety as a result.

FORCE Technology has played a major role in implementing knowledge about Human Factors in these domains and continues its work to improve its training courses and direct participation in accident investigation and safety improvement efforts.
